I almost couldn't believe when I saw that the first book you listed was The Book of Mormon. I am LDS myself and have read it twice and I think I'm about to start a third time. I have an addiction to masturbation and pornography and once was able to over-come it. But I was only able to do it through intense scriptual study and self-reflection. Another book that I would recommend was written by one of the leaders of the LDS Church, Spencer W. Kimball. It's called The Miracle of Forgiveness. It's tough to read for people who are addicted but the end gives hope and really helps out.

It's true, Jesus Christ is the only way to recover from it. He has suffered every pain we will ever experience from physical pain, emotional pain, and spiritual pain. He's the only One who can truly empathize. It's hard to address Him as a sinner, just like it's hard to be told that you're a sinner, but if we are humble then like The Book of Mormon promises us, "...then will I make weak things become strong unto them." (Ether 12:27)

The Most important help is to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Through Christ you can do all things. Nothing is to big for God. He can
absolutely brake the bondage, but you must renew your mind. By reading
the word of God.

I had an addiction to marijuana and I didnot want to quit. God said ask me to take the desire away. I prayed that and then I started to read the word of God everyday.

What you give your attention to, is what you will desire. So you have to guard
your mind, by what you say, what you hear, and what you listen too. You
can be set free but to stay free you can not go near anything that will put
you back to be tempted.. You have to make a decision past what you feel
to what is best to be alive and have a long strong healthy life. Asking for
God to come into your heart by accepting Jesus as Lord is the only real
help to staying free.

I googled in "overcoming porn addiction" and i came across this site. I too believe in God and I pray everyday to quit looking at these disgusting works of man that supposedly bring pleasure but really honestly just bring sorrow in the end. I read what one visitor of this site said and it brought a tear to my eye. Thanks, al, for touching me with your story.

I see that you have really touched many lives with this your articles. Thanks for those resourse,I have bookmarked your site for references.I only want to add that Jesus possess the power for absolute freedom. The scriptures says if son set you free, you are free indeed.
Being delevered from pornography addiction is not enought but to experience salvation which actually come by faith in Christ Jesus. With this, your life will be saved from both the sin of addiction and the attending guilt.
I love you but Jesus loves you much more.I experience him somw 16 years ago,he never fails till today.

I few minutes ago I prayed to my Heavenly Father. I asked him to help me to stop looking at porn. I'm not addicted. I do this probably a few times a year. But today I realized how powerful and destructive pornography can be and that's why I asked for help. I typed on google "how to stop -etc" and found your site. I read a lot of it. And then I checked your top ten list of favourite books and I realized that one of your books is "The Book of Mormon". I don't know if you are mormon or not, but I am. I have a pretty comfortable live, with beautiful kids and an amazing live. And yet, I look at porn sometimes. But then I found your voice on the net, telling me that hope and happiness is still possible. That the book of Mormon is still a great tool to overcome my fears, my temptations. That I'm not alone and that many people have gone through this and overcome these temptations. I can do it. I really know I can. I'm being pretty honest with myself right now and I'm telling you (whoever wrote this articles) that I will do it. You know what, for a few minutes your voice was not only yours but that of my Saviour trying to help me understand that He answers to my prayers. That He listened to me and that He's here to help me. For a few minutes, you were an angel.
Thank you.
