I have dealt with porn for a few years and masturbation for quite longer. I went trough Candeocan.com and it helped quite a bit. They recommended getting an internet filter. However, I chose not to for two main reasons. First I am the kind of guy who will do the opposite of what he is compelled to do. I know I would despise having my agency taken away, even if its blocking filth. The power to choose is an amazing power that should never be tampered with (see disclaimer below).

Second, as the author pointed out toward the end of his post, the problem is not environment as much as it is what you've created in your mind. As this article attests, limiting you access to porn only, does nothing to fix the problem. Now, if you are the type that only heals through others reminding you how wonderful you are, stop reading here. Don't get me wrong, you are wonderful, probably more than you realize. If you don't think your wonderful, that is where you need to start; replace that false belief with the truth. Back to my point, if you are addicted to porn or masturbation the truth is that you're selfish. There are things you need to do to become selfless. There are tons of articles on this site about serving others and I invite you to read those.

The DISCLAIMER: while I didn't use a filter in my recovery that DOES NOT mean you should not. The best thing to do is think of how you will react when you can't go where you want on the net. For some (maybe most) it is extremely liberating. If this is you, great! What are you waiting for? Get one and start changing your brain (I recommend candeo). If you know you'll just be frustrated by the filter than just start changing your brain (I still recommend candeo).
